Population and People’s Living

　　The registered population is 6.986 million, which increases 47000 over the previous year. Among the total population, urban population is 4.959 million, county (city) population 2.027 million, rural population 2.477 million, and non-agricultural population 4.504 million. Proportion of births to population is 7.09‰, an increase of 0.18‰ over the previous year, and human mortality is 6.20‰, a decrease of 0.68‰. Natural growth rate of population is 0.89‰, an increase of 0.86‰, and planned birthrate is up to 99%. Sex ratio of newborn is 160.7.

　　The number of the employed of the whole city and town units is 1.002 million, an increase of 0.49% over previous year. There are 956000 on-the-job workers, an increase of 1.4%, of which, workers in state-owned units are 555000, decreasing by 2000; those in collective units are 73000, decreasing by 10000; and those in other units are 328000, increasing by 25000. Judging from the structure of on-the-job workers, those in primary industry amount to 7000, a decrease of 12.5%, those in secondary industry amount to 394000, a decrease of 2.6%; and those in the tertiary industry amount to 555000, an increase of 0.7%. At the end of year, off-the-job workers are 207000.

　　Reemployment work is boosted steadily. Statistics made by labor department shows that our city has created 131000 employment posts and accomplished registered employment of 267000 person, created commonweal posts and arranged aged person who are difficult to be employed up to 32000 people. At end of year, urban registered unemployment is 135000 and registered rate of unemployment is 5.9%.

　　Urban and rural residents’ income level improves continuously. The annual mean income of the staff in city and town units is RMB 16393 yuan, an increase of 18.7% over the previous year. Of which, the mean income of on-the-job workers is RMB 19895 yuan, an increase of 14.8 %. Urban and rural residents’ per capita balance of savings is RMB 25028 yuan, an increase of 11.9%. Urban residents’ per capita disposable income is RMB 10098 yuan, an increase of 13.2%; per capita consumption expenditure is RMB 7863 yuan, an increase of 9%. Farmers’ per capita net income is RMB 5050 yuan, an increase of 16.2%, per capita individual consumption expenditure is RMB 3095 yuan, an increase of 30.2%.

　　Investment in city and town housing construction is up to RMB 33.25 billion yuan, an increase of 30.8% over the previous year. Newly-built house is 11,117,000 square meters, an increase of 29.9%. The per capita house building area of town dwellers is 23.36 square meters, an increase of 1.81 square meters over the previous year and more 6.03 square meters than the year 2000; and per capital housing area of country people is 25.12 square meters, more 0.7 square meters than the previous year and 3.3 square meters than the year 2000.
